HOW   DO   I   GET   TO   HEAVEN ?

HOW   DO   I   GET   TO   HEAVEN ?

“For God so loved the world [humanity], that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." -Jesus

For God so loved the world [humanity]….

Yes, that's right, God loves you. God, the creator of all things, the creator of you, is incredibly interested in your life. He wants to walk with you and guide you through each of your days. He wants to be your friend, and at the end of your life when you close your eyes in death, he will usher you into his presence in heaven.  He wants this so much, that he came to earth and died so that he could have it.

That He gave His only Son….

But first, we have to talk about the great problem: Sin.

All the wrong things we have done (called sins) separate us from God. They take us on a path that leads to death, everlasting death, and the anger and judgement of God against sin. God is perfect, and he cannot have sin in His presence.

But despite this, remember, God loves you and is interested in you. So, he provided a solution to this terrible problem.  God gave his Son Jesus, a gift above and beyond all gifts, to come to into this world, to die on a cross as a sacrifice for your sins, and the sins of anyone who will accept his gift.

So then how can we have our sins taken care of in order to begin a relationship with God?

That whoever…

God offers to remove your sins, and extends this invitation to all of humanity. Because God is rich in mercy and because of his great love for humanity he made his invitation:

  • All inclusive (completely indiscriminate, and available to all of humanity whether you consider yourself to be good or bad)

  • Very simple (so that the educated and uneducated can understand it)

  • Free (so that anyone can afford it)

  • Universal (able to reach across all ethnicities and cultures)

Believes in Him….

To accept God's invitation, you need to believe in God in your heart.  You need to tell God that you want a relationship with him, that you understand your sins have separated you from God, that you are sorry for them, and that you believe Jesus' death on the cross is the answer that removes the separation between yourself and God bringing you into a relationship with him.

"For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." Romans 10:10

Should not perish….

But what if you don't believe, then what?

Everyone knows that some day we will die. If you choose not to believe God, then after you die, you will face God as your judge.

Because God is a just and perfect judge, no sin will escape his notice or be left unpunished. God's punishment for sin is spending eternity separated from him in hell.

"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." John 3:36

But have eternal life….

When you enter into a relationship with God you will be given eternal life. A life that will never end. A relationship that will never be broken. A friend that will never leave you no matter what you may encounter in this life.  Unending joy, satisfaction, and peace with God will be yours, and a home in heaven when you close your eyes in death.

Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly." John 10:10

Below is a simple summary that explains more clearly how to accept God's invitation to heaven (which also comes with a life long relationship with Him, it's a package deal).

 You must:

  • Admit that you need God, because you have done wrong things that separate you from Him. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23.

  • Realize that there is nothing you can do to get yourself into heaven. "He saved us, not because of works done by us… but according to his own mercy."  Titus 3:5 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8&9

  • Repent and be willing to leave your sinful life behind. "[God] commands all people everywhere to repent." Acts 17:29

  • Believe that Jesus, who is God, died to pay for your sins, that he rose from the grave    victorious over death, and he is alive in heaven today.  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son….that the world [humanity] might be saved." John 3:16&17.  "…the blood of Jesus His [God's] Son cleanses us from all sin." I John 1:7 "…believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

  • We suggest that you tell God through a prayer that you believe these things and that you would like a relationship with him. This removes the separation between you and God and brings you into a wonderful relationship with him.

  • "…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "Romans 10:9 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”I Timothy 1:15

Yep, that’s it. It’s that simple.
